With the show coming up soon, I anticipate that I might get some new visitors. This blog has tons of stories of my continuing survival of retail, some taken from my book Surviving Retail. I changed the book into a show to join my new love of writing to my life-long love of performing. It's a quasi-musical with 10 short, sharp songs mixed with humorous anecdotes and observations about my life on the storefront lines as a retail soldier. Although some of the stories may seem unbelievable, the truth doesn't have to be believable, it just has to be true and these stories are.
Here's my video channel where many of the songs from the show are featured. In many of the songs (and on the show flyer) there's a ukulele. This is my musical accompaniment in the show, but it's also an omni-prop; representing some of the many products I've sold and to illustrate a point or two.
I have fought in culture wars, class wars, and many, many wars on Christmas, but my enemy hasn't been customers. It's been the human nature that affects every one of us, regardless of what we do for a living. I'd like to make clear that this show isn't about me complaining about my job for an hour and some change, this is more a celebration (and a little bit of a warning).
In some ways this is just me changing jobs in customer service. It's just the customers I want to serve now are the audience.
